The change in the ago of 40
There’s a saying that says that it’s difficult to people to change when they are considered adult. Well, rabbi akiva, who was a simple shepherd ,decided in the age of 40 to change his way of life. One day, while akiva went with the sheep in the nature, he saw a stone with a hole inside of it. Rabbi akiva asked someone why ther ‘s a hole in the stone, and the person answered him that the water made the holes in the stone , and the same person cited a a verse from job 14:19 –
“אֲבָנִים שָׁחֲקוּ מַיִם“-( “The waters wear the stones”)
Akiva ben Yosef decided then and there to go and learn Torah, for if dripping water could bore a hole into solid rock, then even he, a forty year old man could learn Torah through constant effort.
40-52 (64 )
Inspite of their poverty , akiva fully supported by Rachel decided after the evet to go and leran torah. Akiva attended several schools of learning, and after many years became a student of Joshua ben Hananya, a great scholar. One day Rachel heard that Akiva didn’t even have enough money to buy candies. Because of this he studied in the dark, thus spoiling his eyesight. Quickly Rachel cut off her beautiful long hair, sold it in the marketplace and sent the money to Akiva. Akiva became a great scholar, and his fame spread throughout the country. The lowly shepherd became one of Israel’s most beloved Rabbis. When he returned to his house he overheard his wife tell a friend that she would gladly let him learn for another 12 years. And he did. When he finally returned, he had become the great sage and acquired his 24,000 students.
What’s is love according to this story?
As we can see ,rabbi akiva and Rachel needed to make a lot of concessions in order to maintain their love .the amazing thing is that their love was stronger and stronger. The distance, the torah and the fatter-in-low couldn’t stop the water of love to spread!
