In genesis 12:1 The Lord is telling to Abraham to go to the land of Canaan. The bible is not sharing with us the information how Abraham knew that there was one God in the universe. We need to remember that monotheism was not a famous idea in those days….
The famous story about Abraham our father is the breaking of the statues, smashing them entirely because he couldn’t understand how the sculpture can help you in life.
The less famous story is not acting but the thinking of Abraham which probably led to the famous smashing story.
When he was young, little Abraham asked himself, who is in charge of the stars, the skies, the son and he found the truth after a long time of thinking, there is only one who can create all of this – The almighty, The Lord!
There’s a lovely fable that helped him according to Rabbi Isaac; a man is walking from one place to another and he saw place with light and asked:
Could this place be without a leader?
The leader glanced at Abraham and said: I am the owner of the place (I am the owner of the capital).
If there is an owner to every place – there is an owner to the world- this is God.
After the owner of the place, the leader of the city glanced at Abraham, God himself looked at Abraham and told him: I am the owner of the world!
