The more well known story of the arriving of David to the palace of king Saul is because David, the small one, killed goliath, the big warrior of the philistines in 1 Samuel 17.
But, we need to remember that there is one more story that tells us different way of David reaching the palace; in the chapter before King Saul is feeling really bed, there is a bed spirit, and some will say that this is insanity over him. At the same time the good spirit of The Lord is with David that is now the king to be, the king that needs to hide the fact that he is a king, because King Saul is still the king. Only after the tragic death of him in 1 Samuel 31, David will be the king of Israel.
Meanwhile in the palace King Saul is feeling really bed as written in 1Samuel 16:14-
“וְרוּחַ יְהוָה סָרָה, מֵעִם שָׁאוּל; וּבִעֲתַתּוּ רוּחַ-רָעָה, מֵאֵת יְהוָה.”
“Now the spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrified him.”
At this point from the field David comes to the palace of Saul in order to play to the king with the violin. The violin is the medicine to the depression that encompasses the king. The beautiful thing with the Hebrew comes in the end of this chapter as written with a nice wordplay:
“וְהָיָה, בִּהְיוֹת רוּחַ-אֱלֹהִים אֶל-שָׁאוּל, וְלָקַח דָּוִד אֶת-הַכִּנּוֹר, וְנִגֵּן בְּיָדוֹ; וְרָוַח לְשָׁאוּל וְטוֹב לוֹ, וְסָרָה מֵעָלָיו רוּחַ הָרָעָה”
“and it came to pass, when the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; so Saul found relief, and it was well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him”
This is a beauty, my friends, the same letters with different vowels- this is The Biblical Hebrew- are you feeling relieved?

Hi Eli,
Interesting that you speak of a violin played by David and the english translation says: harp.
best regards,
Louis Cladder
I’m afraid your explanation will have to be a little simpler for his non-Hebrew speaker to understand your point.
