Who will be blessed- psalm 128

The book of psalms was probably written by someone who was an agronomist or an agriculturist, due to the simple reason that most of the psalms which deal with the figure of the righteous is using with the metaphor of the plant that is growing up, the tree that bear fruit, the family that is lying on the grass with the lake that encircle them.

In psalm 128, 1-3 is written:

“Song of Ascents. {N}
Happy is every one that feared the LORD, that walked in His ways.

When thou eat the labor of thy hands, happy shall thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine, in the innermost parts of thy house; {N}
thy children like olive plants, round about thy table.”

The one who will be blessed is the one is first of all a happy person because he is walking in the correct way, he is probably a man that eats good because The Lord blessed his ground, his wife will be with a lot of fertility in his house and his sons will like a plant of olives near his table!

olive

This is the best blessing that a man can get; my question is for the agriculturist: what happens when there is a drought or what happen to the women?

  1. Jeff Kopp says:

    If the psalms were written today they would use metaphors of industrial work and computers and sports. The psalmist uses that which is familiar to those who will read or sing their psalm to give their message.

    Hi. I’m just writing to let you know that I appreciate very much these postings that you write. I am flirting with the idea of learning Hebrew. I listen to a lot of music in the language and have already learned the alphabet. This is one of the best resources to learn about Biblical and Modern Hebrew on the Web. God bless you and cause his face to shine upon you and your work!
