5 years is without any doubt a lifetime, you can serve in the army for three years and become an officer. You can fly to South America or India after the army, come back and learn in the University. You can marry and have two or even three children. There is one person that cannot do all the things above- this is of course Gilad Shalit. We are waiting for his return; we want him here with us not today or tomorrow, but yesterday!

When I think about Gilad, I remember the verses from Jeremiah 31 about the boys that should have come back to their house, as written:

“כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, קוֹל בְּרָמָה נִשְׁמָע נְהִי בְּכִי תַמְרוּרִים–רָחֵל, מְבַכָּה עַל-בָּנֶיהָ; מֵאֲנָה לְהִנָּחֵם עַל-בָּנֶיהָ, כִּי אֵינֶנּוּ. כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, מִנְעִי קוֹלֵךְ מִבֶּכִי, וְעֵינַיִךְ, מִדִּמְעָה:  כִּי יֵשׁ שָׂכָר לִפְעֻלָּתֵךְ נְאֻם-יְהוָה, וְשָׁבוּ מֵאֶרֶץ אוֹיֵב. וְיֵשׁ-תִּקְוָה לְאַחֲרִיתֵךְ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה; וְשָׁבוּ בָנִים, לִגְבוּלָם”.

“Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. Thus saith the LORD; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD that thy children shall come again to their own border.”

Sometimes we don’t need to say anything, we are crying now with Rachel our mother and also with Aviva, the mother of Gilad. I hope that after 5 years people won’t be indifferent until he will come back, yes he will , and yes we can (bring him back)
