Stones in our pocket?

One of the amazing things that you can find while reading the Hebrew Bible is the amount of different, some will say odd, laws that you must maintain and keep.

Today we will meet one of them, that appears in Deuteronomy 25:13-16-

“You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a large and a small. You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. You shall have a full and just weight; you shall have a full and just measure, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you. For everyone who does these things, everyone who acts unjustly is an abomination to the LORD your God.”

We carry stones in our pocket, metaphorically of course, stones that must be according to the law, in the same size, stones that are the symbol of constancy and stability- this is the only way to live and not to do evil in our world.

This odd law from the first view is a way of life from the second reading. One of the best songs that speak about the idea of justice is sung by an Israeli singer, whose name is “Mukki”. He shares with us the important message that “Everyone speaks about peace but no one speaks about Justice”.

If we want to have this justice – we can carry two stones in our pockets in the same size . Another option is to remember that the words of G-D are not written without a purpose.

What do you think about this idea of the stones? Share your thoughts with us here or on our Facebook fan page, Eli

Powerful! Peace and justice, force and mercy…all these are clear reminders of our need to truly carry even stones!
Thank you for such a powerful reminder.
    Blessings.

I think these “stones” could be lots of things. One is our viewpoint on sin. We regard some sins as “not so bad” but other sins are “horrible!” and I think God wants us to regard all sin as the same.
Another is our treatment of other people. We want to treat some people better than we treat other people, and God wants us to treat all people the same.
